Northern and Middle Estonia Manor tour
Northern and Middle Estonia Manor tour gives you a unique chance to visit four manor pearls in one day. You will see: Eivere Manor, Roosna-Alliku Manor, Albu Manor and Janeda Manor.
First sight of the day is unique neo-Gothic Eivere Manor located near by limestone city of Paide, 85 km from Tallinn. Brief glimpses of Eivere's main house are visible through the trees in the park in the true traditions of a forest-based mansion, ready to welcome the wanderer home. Red roofs lay over some spires and verandas with large windows, from which beautiful falling autumn leaves can be seen. Inside there are halls with chequered tile floors, a couple of rooms with cosily-burning fireplaces, while on the walls of the rooms there is dark wooden panelling providing a friendly atmosphere. There were several manor houses of this style built in the Baltics in the beginning of the 20th century.
Our next stop is the building of the Paide Order Castle started 1265, but later destroyed and restored for the 650th anniversary of the St. George's Night Uprising in 1993.
Afterwards we continue our way to Roosna-Alliku Manor which is located on the edge of Pandivere Highlands and Korvemaa where the Parnu River starts from a lake. The mansion of the manor was designed by the former Estonian province architect Johann Schultz. He is also the author of Toompea Castle, which is why there are notable similarities between the two buildings.
Next our sight of our Northern and Middle Estonia Manor tour is Albu Manor – the pearl of Estonian Manor Architecture. It is one of the oldest order manors in Jarva County and Estonia first mentioned in 1282. The main building, barn, arched bridge, granary, distillery and park of the manor complex have survived until today. The décor of the manor is simple and laconic. The baroque stove with white and blue tiles and the classicist stoves with white tiles have been preserved. The lunch at Albu Manor is offered on request.
On the way back to Tallinn we visit Janeda Manor and museum. The exhibition rooms of the museum are situated in the main building of Janeda manor and present material about the history of the village and the last owners of the estate, the von Benckendorffs. The museum played a key role in preserving the history of Estonia’s first agricultural school.
With new impressions we return to Tallinn where optionally Kadriorg Palace visit is offered.
